Deleskia Butler – Distinctive Women
Deleskia Butler is a small business owner, Army veteran, and graduate of V-WISE Chicago 2013 and Boots 2 Business 2014. Her business, Distinctive Women, Entrepreneurial Women Making a Difference, is a woman and veteran owned business.
Distinctive Women provides informational resources, establishes networking opportunities, and promotes health and fitness for all women pursuing a goal. The company helps professional women participate in small networking groups, improve personal marketing strategies and skills, and become part of an enterprise where women are making a difference.
How It Happened: “I decided that I wanted to start my own business about 5 years ago. As retirement approached, I decided that I wanted to do something different and be my own boss and make a difference in other people’s lives.”
In the Army, Butler served as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3) and recently retired on July 1, 2015. According to Butler, her experience of being in the military has helped her to become a successful entrepreneur:
“Attending the ‘becoming an entrepreneur’ seminars for veterans was a big stepping stone for me. That, along with my leadership skills and my love of meeting new people, has helped me become an entrepreneur.”
Distinctive Women recently became a Veteran Owned Business and can submit bids for government contracts. Butler is recruiting skilled women, both business owners and non-business owners, to co-partner and help the organization grow.
Butler enjoys networking with all professional women and creating support channels. She also hopes to open up a workout boutique in the near future. In her spare time, Butler teaches hip hop cycle classes and enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Her life motto is, “This too shall pass!”
